Dallas Demonstrators to call for Bush to Stop Raid on Student Aid

In a post-State of the Union tour, President Bush will visit a local Dallas school on Friday, using it as a backdrop for a speech on education. However, the House of Representatives voted this week to gut $11.9 billion in student aid programs, the largest cut in our nation’s history.  This is not the first attack on Texas students, who are still reeling from exorbitant increases in college tuition at state universities. Young Democrats of Texas, college students and parents are sponsoring a demonstration across the street from Townview Magnet School, where President Bush will be speaking.

The school is located at 1201 E. 8th St. in Dallas. Demonstrators will meet close to the school campus in a parking lot located at the end of N. Denley Drive, which runs along the east side of the school. From I-35 exit 8th Street, turn east on 8th Street, then turn left on N. Denley, which dead ends into the parking lot. Or, take DART Rail to the 8th & Corinth Station. Walk 1/2 mile west on 8th St. to N. Denley, and turn right to the dead end parking lot.
